Fibonacci was an Italian mathematician in the Middle Ages.  He is known primarily for the series of numbers called the Fibonacci sequence.  In this sequence, each number after the first two numbers is the sum of the two numbers before it (e.g., 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144, 233, 377, 610, … ). This sequence, which is defined by the linear recurrence equation Fn = Fn − 1 + Fn – 2, is found in many spirals that occur in nature, including in the heads of sunflowers and daisies and in Nautilus shells.
